Dual Drive 2.5” Premier Drive Case (RAID 0, 1)

Dual Drive quality metal case that holds 2 x SATA 2.5” drives. It is ideal for fast SSD’s available from us. We provide bundles for this case with 2 drives.

These cases can be set up in the following configurations:

-2 drives joined to provide the combined storage of both drives (RAID 0)

-2 drives mirroring each other (RAID 1)

-2 drives added together to have larger capacity (SPAN)

-1 or 2 drives sizes do not have to match (JBOD)

Note:

RAID 0 - there is some performance improvement by having drives combined as data is handled across both drives by hard ware but there is more risk, as drives in this situation are hard to recover if one drive fails (less likely with SSDs than mechanical drives but worthy of mention). People will often organise a back up of critical folders on these drives for insurance

RAID 1 - there is a lot of reduced risk here as data is duplicated. It also means if for some reason a drive (SSD) has issues, a new one can be inserted instead and after a brief time reset, the system can get back to where things were before and continue on.

SPAN - all drives work as one volume in total. No redundancy and if anything has an issue, it affects everything. Gives greater capacity but at risk.

JBOD (Just a Bunch of Disks) - runs just as 1 or 2 drives (depending on how many drives inserted). Drives work independently

Performance with dual SSD in this drive case is good but limitations exist with SATA. Best results are achieved with plugging into USB 3 port. Results will be quite good but better results would be achieved with our soon to be released M2 NVMe drives and cases, which will be a fair bit more. Of course the products shown here are pretty good value.
